Paramount Develops Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Film

Published 8 October 2026

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with CD Projekt Red and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached to the project. The film is in development, but no director, writer, cast or release date has been announced in the available details. The project draws on the world of CD Projekt Red’s role-playing game, which is set in Night City. The company’s co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, said in a post on X that CD Projekt Red was excited about Paramount as a partner and would share more details later. The reports do not establish whether the film will adapt the game’s central storyline or introduce a different story in the same universe. One account described it as a new story, but that detail has not been broadly confirmed. There is also no confirmed casting, including whether Keanu Reeves, who played Johnny Silverhand in the game, will be involved. CD Projekt Red reported that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 40 million copies as of July 3, 2026, while its Phantom Liberty expansion had sold 15 million. The game, which debuted in 2020, follows the mercenary V in Night City and features Silverhand as a digital consciousness connected to V.
