Affleck Says No Prosthesis Was Used in Gone Girl Scene

Published 8 October 2026

Ben Affleck said he wore no prosthesis for his nude shower scene in the 2014 film Gone Girl, addressing a question that has followed the psychological thriller since its release. He made the statement in an interview, adding that the only prosthesis he had worn in a film was a nose for his role in Hollywoodland. Affleck played Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy, played by Rosamund Pike, disappears. In the shower scene, Amy returns home and tells Nick to strip so she can check whether he is wired. Affleck’s account of what he wore is based on his own remarks; the available reporting does not include production records or a separate observation of the filming. The actor had discussed the scene publicly in 2014 while accepting an award for Gone Girl. He recalled director David Fincher assuring him that the camera would not tilt far enough to reveal too much. Affleck also joked about the set being kept cool, saying that if audiences were going to see him nude, he wanted the conditions to be cold. Gone Girl, directed by Fincher and adapted from Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel, follows Nick as he becomes the focus of a police investigation after Amy vanishes.
