Netflix Announces Violet and Edmund Bridgerton Prequel

Netflix and Shondaland announced October 8 a limited-series prequel following young Violet Bridgerton and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of the eight siblings at the center of the original series. The project is untitled, and Netflix has not announced its cast or release date. The story will look at Violet before she became the family’s matriarch and explore her relationship with Edmund, whom she later married. The announcement describes the romance as the beginning of the Bridgerton family story. Beyond that central premise, details of the plot have not been disclosed. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini are attached as writers, showrunners and executive producers. Tom Verica is set to direct and executive produce, and Betsy Beers will also executive produce. The team includes creative personnel associated with the original series and the earlier prequel, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The project adds another story set before the events of Bridgerton, shifting attention from Violet’s children to an earlier generation. Ruth Gemmell plays adult Violet in the main series.
