Deadlock sets player record after major update

Published 30 September 2026

Valve’s Deadlock set a new concurrent-player record after the game’s City Never Sleeps update, with SteamDB recording more than 228,000 players online at the same time. The update added six heroes in development, a redesigned New York-inspired map and a range of gameplay changes. Deadlock remains invite-only, and Valve has not announced a release date. The reported peak was 228,086 concurrent players, according to SteamDB figures cited in coverage of the update. One account put the game’s previous record at 171,490 players in September 2024. The new figure is a snapshot of simultaneous players; the available reporting does not show how long the higher level lasted or establish how much of the increase was caused by the update. City Never Sleeps reworked Deadlock’s central map, a stylized version of New York, and added new neutral enemies, which Valve calls Haunts. The update also included changes to objectives, items, voting and the user interface, along with additional voice lines and other quality-of-life adjustments. The six heroes introduced in development are Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon, Deadman Danny, Baba and Violet.
