AMD Plans FSR 4 Expansion to APUs and Handhelds
AMD plans to bring its FSR 4 upscaling technology to APUs, gaming laptops and handheld devices by the end of 2026, executive Jack Huynh said. His remarks describe a planned expansion; they do not confirm that the software has already been released for those devices. Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group, said the company would extend FSR 4 across its product line. The technology uses machine learning to upscale game images, and has so far been associated primarily with discrete graphics cards. AMD’s statement points to broader support for products using its accelerated processing units, or APUs, which combine processing and graphics functions. Huynh also described a lightweight FSR 4 model designed for the APU environment. In remarks reported from an event in Seoul, he said AMD had developed a dedicated model for APUs, with a focus on game quality and low latency. The reports do not provide technical specifications for the model or explain how it differs from existing FSR 4 versions. The planned expansion could cover handhelds and laptops built around AMD hardware, but AMD has not specified which models will be compatible.
