Two Latvian men arrested after breach at RAF Molesworth

Published 8 October 2026

Two Latvian men were arrested at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire after police found a breach in the base’s perimeter fence. They remain in custody as counterterrorism officers investigate their presence at the site, where the motive is not established. The Ministry of Defence Police and Cambridgeshire Constabulary found the small breach during searches following a security patrol. The men, aged 36 and 32 and both living in the United Kingdom, were arrested at about 2 a.m. on October 8. Police initially arrested them on suspicion of trespass on a prohibited site and criminal damage. They were later also arrested on suspicion of an offence under Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023. The men remain in custody, and the investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing London. Commander Helen Flanagan said the inquiry was at a very early stage and investigators were keeping an open mind about why the men were at the base. She said there was nothing to suggest the incident was connected to a separate incident at RAF Fairford. The investigation into that event, which took place on September 27, remains ongoing.
