Royal Navy member charged over alleged protected information
A Royal Navy member, Teddy Young, 24, has been charged under the National Security Act 2023 with offences alleging he prepared to disclose protected information and obtained, copied, recorded or retained it to benefit a foreign power, police said. The allegations concern conduct between November 2024 and May 2025; Young has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 8. Police have not identified the foreign power. The charges allege that Young’s conduct was intended to benefit that power and that he knew, or ought reasonably to have known, it could prejudice the safety or interests of the United Kingdom. These are allegations, not findings of guilt. The reports do not detail what information was involved or what evidence supports the accusations. Young was arrested at his home in Bedfordshire on Tuesday, October 6, and taken into custody. The charges include an allegation of conduct in preparation for disclosing protected information, contrary to section 18 of the National Security Act 2023.
