The Exorcist: Martyrs Trailer Revealed, Release Set for 2027

Published 9 October 2026

Universal Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs, a new film written and directed by Mike Flanagan, with a theatrical release scheduled for March 12, 2027. The trailer was presented at New York Comic Con 2026 and introduces Scarlett Johansson as Julie Miller, a New York City detective drawn back into a serial-killer case. The film’s official synopsis says Miller ended the reign of killer Father Sunday 13 years earlier. A new killer’s crime scene brings her back to the investigation. The story combines a crime investigation with supernatural horror, though the trailer and synopsis do not establish how those elements ultimately connect. Flanagan has described the film as both a serial-killer thriller and a possession story. He said he aimed to make it his scariest film. According to Flanagan, Miller is a single mother and NYPD detective who faces what appears to be a copycat killer leaving crime scenes for her. The trailer offers glimpses of ritualistic killings and a threat reaching into her home life, but the meaning of the images remains unconfirmed. The film’s completed plot has not been fully disclosed.
