Marvel Announces Captain Marvel Series for May 2027

Published 9 October 2026

Marvel Comics has announced a new ongoing Captain Marvel series, written by G. Willow Wilson and illustrated by Rachael Stott, scheduled to launch in May 2027. The announcement was made at New York Comic Con on October 9, 2026, and the story will follow the events of the Avengers: Armageddon comic storyline. The series will center on Carol Danvers as she faces the consequences of that storyline. Marvel’s synopsis says she finds herself “grounded like never before” and must challenge what she thought she knew about being Captain Marvel in order to rise again. The description does not specify which abilities may have changed, or whether she has lost the ability to fly. Marvel’s announcement also teases a threat that has been assembling in the shadows of the Marvel Universe for decades and is ready to make its move. The company has not identified the foe or explained how it will challenge Danvers. Further plot details were not provided in the announcement. The project reunites Wilson, known for her work on Ms. Marvel, with the character for a new chapter. Stott will provide the art. Marvel described the book as an ongoing series, rather than a limited series.
