Samsung Mocks Apple's First Foldable iPhone

Published 10 September 2026

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the announcement of its first device, the iPhone Duo, priced at $1,999 and set for release on October 23. The launch prompted a swift, albeit indirect, response from Samsung, a company that has been selling foldable phones since 2019. Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on Wednesday, describing it as its thinnest iPhone when unfolded. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, both designed with the same aspect ratio to ensure content resizes cleanly when the phone is opened or closed. The iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil via USB-C later this year and includes Touch ID integrated into the side button. Hours before Apple's keynote, Samsung released a video titled "Welcome to Foldables," which featured its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and other foldable models. Following Apple's announcement, Samsung Mobile US posted on social media, "Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers." While Samsung did not explicitly name Apple or the iPhone Duo, the timing of the post, minutes after the announcement, led many to interpret it as a jab at Apple's late entry into the foldable category.
