Apple's Foldable iPhone Ultra Confirmed With MagSafe Charging

Apple is set to unveil its first foldable iPhone, widely reported to be called the iPhone Ultra, at its "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9, 2026. The device, which will enter a market long dominated by Samsung, is expected to feature a thin, book-style design and a key wireless charging capability that its main rival lacks. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone Ultra will support MagSafe charging, a feature that was previously uncertain due to the device's extremely thin profile. Gurman stated in an interview that "all indications that I've heard is that MagSafe is in for this foldable phone." This would give the iPhone Ultra a notable advantage over Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, which does not offer built-in magnetic wireless charging. The foldable is anticipated to have a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen when unfolded, creating a passport-like form factor. To achieve its slim design, reportedly around 4.5 millimeters thick when open, Apple is expected to make some trade-offs. The device will likely use Touch ID integrated into the power button instead of Face ID and may omit a dedicated telephoto camera, featuring only wide and ultra-wide lenses.
