Apple Launches Foldable iPhone Duo at $1,999

Published 10 September 2026

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the unveiling of the iPhone Duo, its first device of this kind. The announcement came during the company's September 9 product event, marking a significant debut for new CEO John Ternus. The iPhone Duo features a book-style design with a 5.4-inch outer display that opens to reveal a larger 7.6-inch inner screen, aiming to redefine the foldable experience. The device is priced starting at $1,999, positioning it as a premium offering. Preorders for the iPhone Duo are scheduled to begin on October 16, with retail availability set for October 23. This launch places Apple directly against competitors like Samsung, which has already established a presence in the foldable segment with devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. John Ternus, who assumed the CEO role on September 1, presented the Duo as a product that merges hardware and software innovation. He highlighted its fluid transitions between the outer and inner displays and its potential for enhanced multitasking. The device incorporates a nanotexture display designed to minimize crease visibility and reduce glare, along with Ceramic Shield protection for durability.
