Strike damages Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, disrupting traffic

Published 2 October 2026

A Russian strike damaged Kyiv’s Northern Bridge on October 3, disrupting traffic and damaging its roadway and overhead public-transport infrastructure, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The strike came a day after attacks affected the Southern Bridge, adding pressure to routes across the Dnipro River and contributing to traffic disruption in the capital. Klitschko said the Northern Bridge’s road surface and trolleybus infrastructure were damaged and that traffic was suspended. The bridge links Kyiv’s Obolon and Troieshchyna districts and is one of the city’s major crossings over the river. Reports described congestion as drivers were redirected to other routes, though they differed on the duration and extent of the resulting disruption. Accounts of casualties at the bridge conflict. Klitschko’s account, carried in several reports, said none were reported, while other reports said two people were injured, one of whom was hospitalized. The available accounts do not establish a confirmed casualty count. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it carried out the strike and claimed the bridge supports Ukrainian troop movements and military logistics.
