Drone Strikes Kill People in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia

Russian drone strikes hit several parts of Ukraine overnight and into September 28, with Ukrainian officials reporting deaths in Kyiv and the Zaporizhzhia region. In Kyiv, officials said a drone struck a nonresidential building identified by President Volodymyr Zelensky as the National Academy of Sciences, setting it on fire. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a woman was killed and three people were hospitalized with injuries. Accounts of the Kyiv casualties and locations differ. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that a man was killed when a drone hit a nonresidential building in the Solomyansky district, while Klitschko described a fatality at a building in the central Shevchenkivsky district. Volodymyr Gorbulin, a former head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council who was working at the academy, told Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne that he was slightly wounded and that his assistant, who was near the building, was killed.
