Russian drone attack damages Kyiv infrastructure, kills two

Russian drones struck Kyiv on September 23, damaging railway facilities, warehouses, business premises and petrol stations, according to Ukrainian officials and company representatives. City authorities reported at least two people killed and 22 injured in a later update, while an earlier report gave a toll of one dead and seven injured. The reports did not explain the difference. Explosions were heard and smoke was seen in the city centre, according to journalists at the scene. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a drone hit a nine-storey nonresidential building, a business centre and warehouses. Authorities said two petrol stations came under attack. Ukrnafta said one of its stations was the sixth such facility struck in recent weeks. Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, chief executive of Ukraine’s railway operator, said railway infrastructure in Kyiv was attacked and one worker was injured. The reports did not provide a complete account of the damage or a final casualty total. The strike came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on September 22 to discuss efforts to end the war.
