Rivian Sets Quarterly Delivery Record as R2 Sales Ramp
Rivian reported its highest quarterly delivery total to date on October 2, delivering 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter as its R2 SUV entered its first full quarter of sales. The company also said it produced 19,751 vehicles. The delivery figure was about 45 higher than in the same quarter a year earlier, according to Rivian’s reported figures. The results put Rivian’s annual delivery target of 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles in focus. The company reaffirmed that range, which includes its R1 vehicles and commercial vans. It has not disclosed how many of the third-quarter deliveries were R2s, so the model’s contribution to the quarterly record cannot be measured from the figures released so far. Rivian launched the R2 in June, making the third quarter its first full quarter of sales. The company has set a goal of selling 20,000 to 25,000 R2s by the end of 2026, but that is an ambition rather than a reported result. The R2 is intended to reach a broader customer base than Rivian’s R1 lineup; lower-priced versions are expected later, while the Performance version is currently being sold, according to reports on the rollout.
