Chip City Closes Its Remaining Cookie Shops

Published 2 October 2026

Chip City closed its remaining cookie shops at the end of business Thursday, October 1, ending operations across the chain after the company cited weaker consumer spending and changing customer preferences. Company president Nicolas Baizan told employees the business no longer had the funding required to operate, according to an internal message described in reports. The company also announced the decision in a statement, citing economic headwinds. Reports differed on how many shops remained before the shutdown, putting the total at either 22 or 24. The available accounts do not reconcile the figures. The closures included Chip City locations in New York and other markets where the chain still operated, following earlier exits from Connecticut and Virginia. Storefronts were reported dark, with closure notices posted at some locations. The company had expanded to 45 company-owned stores by 2024, according to one account, before contracting its footprint. Baizan’s message said consumers were spending less and their preferences were evolving, negatively affecting sales. The company said it had made extensive efforts to stabilize the business but had decided to close all locations.
