Nvidia Sets Record, Nearing $6 Trillion Valuation

Published 2 October 2026

Nvidia shares reached an intraday record on Friday, October 2, for the first time since May, lifting the chipmaker’s market value to about $5.7 trillion and leaving it less than $300 billion short of $6 trillion, according to most reported estimates. The move followed the company’s expanded share-buyback authorization and renewed investor optimism about demand for artificial-intelligence computing. The shares rose as much as 2.9% during the session, reaching a reported high of about $237.75 to $237.88. Nvidia’s market capitalization estimates varied: most reports put it near $5.7 trillion, while another placed it at roughly $5.6 trillion. The estimates were not reconciled, but each indicated the company was approaching the $6 trillion milestone. Nvidia shares later pared some gains, with one account reporting a close just below the prior record. Nvidia’s board authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases on September 28, bringing the remaining authorization to about $235 billion through fiscal 2028. The authorization permits purchases but does not require Nvidia to spend the full amount or establish a timetable for doing so.
