HP announces $699 OmniBook 5 with OLED and 42-hour claim

Published 2 October 2026

HP has announced the OmniBook 5, a 14-inch Windows laptop starting at $699.99 that pairs an OLED display with a company-claimed battery life of up to 42 hours in local-video playback. HP is positioning the computer in the same budget range as Apple’s MacBook Neo, while the real-world runtime and availability of upgraded configurations remain unclear. The base model is reported to include 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage, with an Intel Core 5 processor. HP has also described higher-tier versions with more memory, storage and faster processors, including configurations reaching an Intel Core 7. However, reports differ on which upgrades will be available and when, and prices for higher-end models have not been consistently confirmed. The standard display is described as a 14-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,200 pixels and brightness of up to 300 nits. A 2.5K OLED touchscreen is offered or planned as an upgrade, though its availability timing is not settled in the reports. The laptop has an aluminum chassis, weighs about 2.5 pounds and is 11.77 millimeters thick, according to product details reported from HP materials.
