Prime Video’s Carrie Finale Leaves Her Alive

Published 7 October 2026

Mike Flanagan’s Prime Video adaptation of Carrie ends with Carrie White alive and leaving Chamberlain with Emaline, a major departure from Stephen King’s novel, in which Carrie dies after the prom-night violence. The finale also reveals that Emaline is real and has astral-projection abilities, while introducing a group monitoring people with psychic powers whose purpose remains unclear. The series retains the familiar setup: classmates humiliate Carrie at prom by dumping pigs’ blood on her, and violence follows. But its finale leaves open how much responsibility Carrie bears for the massacre. In one pivotal scene, Emaline asks Carrie if she can take over, suggesting Emaline may be acting through her. Sue Snell also reports seeing a shadow behind Carrie. The accounts of the scene do not establish definitively who controlled the violence. After the prom, Carrie returns home to her mother, Margaret. Their confrontation ends with the house collapsing, but both survive. The finale reveals that Margaret has telekinetic abilities and uses them to protect herself from the wreckage.
