Emmys to Move to Prime Video in Six-Year Deal Starting 2027

Published 6 October 2026

The Television Academy has signed a six-year agreement making Prime Video the home of the Emmy Awards telecast beginning in 2027, ending more than three decades of rotating the ceremony among broadcast networks. The Academy and Amazon say the show will be available free to viewers worldwide, including people without a Prime Video subscription. The deal takes effect with the 2027 ceremony. Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said it will remain in September that year, while any change to the schedule afterward is still under discussion and no decision has been made. He also said the Peacock Theater is booked for the 2027 event; the venue for later ceremonies has not been settled. The financial terms have not been disclosed by the Academy or Amazon. Published estimates differ: one report put the annual fee at about $15 million, while another cited a range of $20 million to $25 million a year. Abrego did not confirm a figure, so the agreement’s value remains unclear. Prime Video’s rights replace the arrangement known as the broadcast “wheel,” under which ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC took turns carrying the ceremony. The most recent rotation ended with NBC’s telecast in September 2026.
