Prime Video Releases Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Adaptation
Prime Video released Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie on October 7, 2026, reworking the story for a contemporary setting while retaining its focus on bullying and isolation. The series updates the novel’s teenage torment for an era in which humiliation can be recorded and spread online, and makes substantial changes to Carrie’s background, characterization and fate. In the series, Carrie White has been homeschooled for most of her childhood before entering public high school. Accounts of the adaptation describe her as more curious and hopeful than earlier screen versions, with her first experience of school exposing her to classmates’ cruelty. The shower-room humiliation from King’s story remains, but students record the incident and footage circulates online. The adaptation also depicts an anonymous social media account used to share material and rumors about students and school staff. Flanagan has said he moved the story into 2026 because bullying persists and digital platforms have changed how cruelty spreads.
