Palatine man detained in alleged Aurora attack plot

Published 15 October 2026

A 19-year-old Palatine man was arrested and charged in connection with an alleged plan to attack a Hindu place of worship in the Aurora area, Illinois authorities said. A judge ordered Alexandros Paporakis detained pending trial on October 14, four days after his arrest. The alleged plan and intended location have not been established in court, and police have not confirmed a specific target. Palatine police said detectives believe an attack may have been planned for October 11. Investigators were alerted after Mount Prospect police received information about electronic communications Paporakis allegedly shared. The two departments coordinated his arrest as he was leaving his home in Palatine, according to police. Prosecutors allege that coworkers told investigators Paporakis had shared a document outlining a mass shooting plan and made statements about killing Indian people. The document, described as eight pages, was titled “Why I Fought A.K.A. Aurora Shooters Manifesto.” Prosecutors say it contained racist statements targeting Indian, Jewish and Black people and described plans to kill members of those groups.
