Mark Cain charged with murder of GP Hannah Cain

Published 7 October 2026

Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with murdering his wife, general practitioner Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, after she was found dead at their home in Dersingham, Norfolk. He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody, with a further appearance scheduled at King’s Lynn Crown Court on Thursday, October 8. The charge is an allegation, and Cain has not been convicted. The ambulance service contacted police at about 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, according to evidence given in court. Dr Terry was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom at the Fern Hill property and was pronounced dead at the scene. Norfolk Police said a postmortem examination had been carried out and that the cause of death remained under investigation. Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told the court that the postmortem noted a blunt-force injury to the right side of Dr Terry’s head and an injury that could suggest compression of the neck. Those details were presented as preliminary findings; police have not announced a final cause of death. The court appearance was procedural: Cain confirmed his name, age and address and was not asked to enter a plea.
