Three friends of Nolan Wells sue Terrell Owens

Published 7 October 2026

The fathers of three friends of Nolan Wells have filed a federal defamation lawsuit against former NFL player Terrell Owens, alleging that his social media post calling for their arrest falsely linked them to serious wrongdoing in Wells’s death. The suit, filed on their sons’ behalf, seeks compensatory and punitive damages and a jury trial. The complaint says Owens posted on X on September 26: “ARREST THEM IMMEDIATELY!! LIKE YESTERDAY!!” The post linked to a video accusing the friends of killing Wells and tampering with his phone, including allegedly deleting messages. The complaint argues Owens’s words endorsed those accusations and presented the young men as participants in a cover-up. The post came five days after a Jackson County grand jury declined to recommend charges against the friends and others who were with Wells when he went missing. The lawsuit says the grand jury’s finding was made public on September 21. The friends deny accessing or manipulating Wells’s phone and deny wrongdoing in connection with his death, according to accounts described in the complaint.
