Angelynn Mock Sentenced to Life for Killing Her Mother
Angelynn Mock, a former television news anchor, was sentenced to life in prison on October 5 for the killing of her mother, Anita Avers, in Wichita, Kansas. Mock, 48, pleaded guilty in August to first-degree murder. She will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years, and the sentence includes credit for time already served but no 15 percent reduction for good behavior, according to reports on the court proceedings. The killing took place at the home Mock shared with Avers and her stepfather. Police found Avers, 80, unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital, where she died. The reports give conflicting years for the killing: one account places it on Halloween 2020, while the others identify October 31, 2025. The available accounts do not resolve that discrepancy. Mock initially told investigators that she had acted in self-defense, according to a probable-cause affidavit. The affidavit recounts that she said she believed she had to kill her mother. She later pleaded guilty to the murder charge.
