India and West Indies level at 2-2 after fourth T20I
India lost the fourth T20I to West Indies in Hyderabad, leaving the five-match series tied 2-2, after failing to chase a target of 248. The defeat prompted former India captain Sunil Gavaskar to urge the batting unit to take more responsibility in run chases. The fifth match is scheduled for October 17 in Bengaluru. West Indies made 247 for three, led by captain Shai Hope’s unbeaten 102 from 50 balls. Shimron Hetmyer scored 33 from 12 deliveries, while Sherfane Rutherford finished unbeaten on 49. India were dismissed for 223, with West Indies fast bowler Keemo Paul taking five wickets. Reports differ on the winning margin, giving it as either 23 or 24 runs. Sanju Samson gave India an aggressive start, scoring 56 from 23 balls. He and Abhishek Sharma helped take the score to 60 without loss in the first four overs, but West Indies began taking wickets and India could not sustain the pace. Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy mounted a recovery, with a 70-run partnership, before both were dismissed. Gavaskar said India had not made enough of Samson’s start and needed greater control in the chase.
