West Indies chase 250 to level T20I series against India

Published 9 October 2026

West Indies chased down India’s 249-run target in 18.3 overs on October 9, winning the second T20I by six wickets and leveling the five-match series at 1-1. The visitors finished on 252 for four at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi, completing a chase that match reports described as the second-highest successful total in men’s T20I cricket. Captain Shai Hope led the pursuit with an unbeaten 102 from 45 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford made 84 from 37. Their attacking partnership helped West Indies recover after losing early wickets and gave the chase momentum through the middle overs. Romario Shepherd remained not out on 34 from 13 balls as the visitors reached their target. India had put up 249 for five in its 20 overs, led by Sanju Samson’s 82 from 41 deliveries. Ishan Kishan added 43 from 22 balls, while Shreyas Iyer scored 40 from 18 and Tilak Varma was unbeaten on 44 from 18. Roston Chase was West Indies’ leading bowler, taking three wickets for 24 runs. West Indies’ reply began under pressure. India fast bowler Mayank Yadav took two wickets in the opening over and later dismissed Rovman Powell, finishing with three for 36.
