Hope's unbeaten 162 leads West Indies to record chase
West Indies captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 162 to lead his team to a five-wicket victory over India in the third ODI on October 3, completing the highest successful run chase in West Indies’ ODI history. The hosts reached 352 with 10 balls remaining after India made 351 for seven. Hope faced 143 balls and anchored the chase, opening the innings after Jewel Andrew was injured. Hope also had kept wicket for 50 overs. He said after the match that he felt discomfort around his groin but decided to continue batting. Reports said Andrew was injured while taking a catch and went to hospital, but did not establish the nature or severity of his injury. Hope credited advice from former India captain MS Dhoni for helping him pace the innings. He recalled Dhoni telling him that a player has more time than they think, and said the guidance helped him break the target into stages rather than focus on the final result. Hope said he remained patient and sought opportunities to score boundaries later in the chase. The West Indies captain reached his half-century from 46 balls and his century from 104, then accelerated as the target came within reach.
