Brydon Carse charged over Derby incident

Published 2 October 2026

The Cricket Regulator has charged England fast bowler Brydon Carse under the England and Wales Cricket Board’s professional conduct regulations and referred the case to an independent panel for adjudication. The charge concerns an incident in Derby in the early hours of August 23; it is not a finding that Carse breached the rules, and no decision or sanction has been reported. The regulator said its investigation resulted in a charge under Regulation 3.2. The rule covers conduct considered improper, prejudicial to cricket’s interests or capable of bringing the game or people involved in it into disrepute. The regulator said it would make no further comment while the process is ongoing. The incident followed a County Championship match in which Durham beat Derbyshire. Carse was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and later de-arrested. Footage shared on social media showed him in handcuffs. Separately, Derbyshire Police investigated an allegation of assault connected with the incident and closed its investigation without further action, according to reports. The police inquiry and the cricket regulator’s disciplinary process are separate matters.
