Published 6 October 2026

India defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20 international in Lucknow, chasing a target of 172 in 14.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Captain Shreyas Iyer led the chase with an unbeaten 102 from 43 balls, while debutant Naman Dhir took three wickets as West Indies were dismissed for 171 in 19.1 overs. India reached 172 for two with 32 balls remaining. The openers fell early, but Iyer and Ishan Kishan put together a match-winning partnership for the third wicket. Kishan finished unbeaten, supporting Iyer as India completed the chase in the 15th over. Iyer’s century included six sixes and either 10 or 11 fours, according to differing match accounts. His innings came at a strike rate above 237 and secured the target without India losing another wicket after the opening pair. The reports also differ on some individual batting figures, and no official scorecard is included in the available information to resolve those discrepancies. Earlier, West Indies were bowled out after reaching 171. Shai Hope top-scored with 52 from 37 balls.
