HBO Orders Eight Episode Crazy Rich Asians Series
HBO has ordered an eight-episode drama series continuing the story of Crazy Rich Asians, bringing back four stars from the 2018 film. Production is expected to begin in 2027, according to the announcement. Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh are set to reprise their roles. The hourlong episodes will pick up after the film’s events, but HBO has not announced specific plot details. Adele Lim, who cowrote the film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Jon M. Chu, who directed the movie, and author Kevin Kwan are among the executive producers, alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, who produced the film. HBO and Warner Bros. Television are producing the series. The announcement marks a return to the story in a television format rather than the long-discussed feature-film sequel. The 2018 movie, adapted from Kwan’s novel, followed Rachel Chu, played by Wu, as she met the wealthy family of her boyfriend, Nick Young, played by Golding. The film’s ending left their story open to continuation.
