Lanterns Finale Reveals Hal Jordan’s Killer, John’s New Role

Published 5 October 2026

The season finale of HBO’s Lanterns reveals that Kerry Kane killed Hal Jordan and ends with John Stewart taking up Hal’s ring and Sinestro’s lantern to protect Earth on his own terms. The episode also discloses that Kerry’s son, Noah, is a Manhunter, resolving the central mystery that had driven the season. Hal had learned that Noah was a Manhunter and feared what the young man might do. He urged Kerry to leave Rushville with him, but she panicked and shot Hal, according to the finale’s flashback. Noah later falsely confessed to the killing to protect his mother. John, who had been investigating Hal’s death, learns the truth from Kerry and decides not to turn her in. Kerry offers to surrender, but John tells her he does not believe Hal would have wanted her punished. The finale also leaves Noah’s future uncertain. He asks John to kill him, fearing his Manhunter nature could lead him to harm others, but John refuses. Instead, John trusts that Noah can choose his own path and allows him to return to his life in Rushville.
