Goa Police Open Inquiry Into Nana Patekar’s Death
Goa Police have registered an unnatural-death case following the death of actor Nana Patekar and are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Naik is leading the inquiry, which was reported as ongoing on October 9. The registration is a procedural step and does not by itself indicate suspected foul play. Patekar, 75, died at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, on October 8. Police records cited in reports say he was taken from the residence to Manipal Hospital in Bambolim and was declared brought dead. A suspected cardiac arrest was reported as the cause of death, though the reports provided no medical findings confirming it. Dr. Shekhar Salkar, chief of oncology at Manipal Hospital, told ANI that Patekar was brought to the hospital at about 4:20 or 4:30 a.m. and was declared brought dead. Salkar said the hospital filed a police case because the death was treated as a medicolegal case. Police registered the case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, according to police records cited in the reporting. The law’s procedure allows authorities to examine the circumstances of a death.
