Delta Police Arrest One in Inquiry Into Adeda’s Death

Delta State police have arrested one suspect and are searching for two others in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a deputy director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education, as homicide investigators examine the circumstances of an incident at a government office in Asaba. Police identified the arrested suspect as Lucky Adoh and the two people being sought as Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine. Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to lead the inquiry. Police have not established the cause of Adeda’s death or conclusively determined what happened during the incident. Investigators are to examine available video footage, eyewitness accounts, medical records and the actions of everyone connected with the incident, police said. The inquiry followed complaints that Adeda was assaulted at the office of Secondary Education Commissioner Kingsley Ashibogwu. The allegations remain under investigation, and the police have not announced findings about responsibility. Ashibogwu has denied ordering or taking part in an assault.
