Forrest wins Open de Espana with final-hole birdie
Grant Forrest won the Open de Espana on Sunday, October 11, birdieing the 18th hole to finish one shot clear of Eugenio Chacarra and Victor Perez. The Scot closed with a four-foot putt at Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid to secure his third DP World Tour title. Forrest finished the tournament at 14 under par after a final-round 70. Chacarra of Spain and France’s Perez tied for second at 13 under. Forrest’s victory also secured places in the 2027 Masters and The Open, according to tournament reports. The result turned on the closing hole. Forrest was level with Chacarra and Perez at 13 under as he reached the 18th, with a playoff possible. His birdie lifted him to 14 under, while both challengers finished at 13 under. Forrest made five birdies and four bogeys in his final round. Chacarra mounted a late challenge with three consecutive birdies at the second, third and fourth holes, then an eagle at the seventh and another birdie at the eighth. He also birdied the final hole, but it was not enough to catch Forrest. Perez, who started the day at 12 under and one shot off the lead, birdied the 16th and 17th to join the lead before parring the last two holes.
