Jon Rahm Withdraws From Spanish Open Before Child’s Birth

Published 7 October 2026

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the Spanish Open, with the expected birth of his fourth child cited as the reason, ending his chance to pursue a record fourth title at the tournament. The event is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 8, at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Rahm had previously said the timing of his wife’s due date could keep him from competing. His absence follows his withdrawal from the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland the previous week, which he described as a precaution, according to reports. The birth is imminent, but the reports do not provide a confirmed date. The Spaniard won the Spanish Open in 2018, 2019 and 2022, matching Seve Ballesteros’s record of three victories. A win this week would have given Rahm the outright record. He also finished runner-up at the tournament in 2024. Rahm’s later-season schedule remains uncertain. He was ranked 43rd in the Race to Dubai standings, according to reports, and was not listed for the DP World India Championship or the Genesis Championship. One report said he had played three DP World Tour events and needed two more under an agreement related to penalties for competing in LIV Golf events.
