Spaun wins BMW PGA after Elvira collapse

American golfer J.J. Spaun won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on Sunday, September 20, 2026, after a dramatic final-round collapse by Spain's Manuel Elvira. Spaun, who was left off the U.S. Presidents Cup team, birdied four of his last five holes to post a 5-under 67 and finish at 17-under par, two shots clear of the field. Elvira, who shared the overnight lead, eagled the par-5 17th to tie Spaun at the top of the leaderboard. However, he then made a double bogey on the final hole after finding two bunkers and missing the green, handing the title to Spaun. Elvira signed for a 70 to finish in a four-way tie for second place at 15-under alongside Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, and Aaron Rai.
