Dan Levy Criticizes Shane Gillis’s SNL Gym Remarks

Published 12 October 2026

Dan Levy criticized Shane Gillis after the comedian’s opening monologue on Saturday Night Live included remarks describing women who wear short gym shorts as “whores.” Levy said the comments were misogynistic and called on men to oppose the objectification of women. Gillis made the remarks while hosting the NBC sketch show on October 10. In the monologue, he said he had not been to the gym in a long time and was surprised by what women wore there, then described their shorts and joked that people were not allowed to look at them. The segment was part of the episode’s opening. Levy responded in an Instagram post. “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them ‘whores,’” he said, adding that men who used the label were misogynists. He also said he was “speechless” that the remarks could be broadcast live on national television. Levy argued that men should speak out against such comments, saying that complacency contributes to an environment in which women are sexually assaulted. He also said that objectification of women in media can influence how other men view and treat women.
