Strictly hosts draw mixed reaction after first live show
Strictly Come Dancing’s new presenting trio drew mixed reactions after their first live show, as the BBC reported an overnight average audience of 4.8 million viewers and a peak of five million for the September 26 broadcast. The programme was the most-watched of the night, according to the BBC, but the overnight figures do not include catch-up viewing. Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe took over presenting duties this series after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman left at the end of 2025. The first live episode was the trio’s first time hosting the competition live, following their appearance in the prerecorded launch show. Their roles were divided between the ballroom and the auditorium: Willis and Widdicombe presented on the dance floor, while Radebe spoke with contestants and professional dancers after performances. Comments shared on social media included criticism of the three-presenter format and the way duties were allocated, as well as support for the new hosts. Some viewers said Widdicombe appeared to have less to do alongside Willis; others suggested he might be better suited to the auditorium.
