Commanders, Giants Tie After Washington Runs Out of Time

Published 11 October 2026

The Washington Commanders and New York Giants tied 27-27 in overtime Sunday after Washington ran out of time before attempting a potential game-winning field goal. The Commanders had reached the Giants’ 24-yard line with about 12 seconds left but could not stop the clock for another snap before time expired. Washington had no timeouts remaining. Quarterback Jayden Daniels took a snap and went down for no gain, leaving the team too little time to line up and spike the ball. The Commanders had been in position to try a field goal, but kicker Drew Stevens never got onto the field for an attempt. The possession followed a fumble by Giants running back Cam Skattebo, who lost the ball after New York had advanced into field-goal range. Washington recovered and drove into scoring range, creating a late chance to win. The Giants had also had an opportunity for a winning kick earlier in overtime, but did not convert their chance before Skattebo’s fumble. Daniels said Washington needed to stop the clock and communicate the situation more effectively, adding that responsibility began with him. Coach Dan Quinn said the final sequence was his responsibility and did not fall on Daniels.
