Commanders end Seahawks’ 12-game streak with 33-31 win

The Washington Commanders beat the Seattle Seahawks 33-31 on Sunday, ending Seattle’s 12-game winning streak and handing the reigning Super Bowl champions their first loss of the season. Quarterback Marcus Mariota, starting in place of injured Jayden Daniels, threw three touchdown passes, and linebacker Kain Medrano’s 50-yard interception return for a touchdown helped Washington secure the win in its home opener. The Seahawks had rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie the game at 24-24 in the fourth quarter. Washington moved ahead with a field goal, but Seattle remained within reach until Medrano intercepted Sam Darnold late in the game and returned the ball for a score, putting the Commanders ahead 33-24. Seattle answered with a touchdown pass from Darnold to Cooper Kupp, cutting the margin to two points. Washington then held the ball through the final drive to run out the clock. The Commanders converted two third downs, including a nine-yard run by Mariota on third-and-seven, according to a game account.
