Sanders Benches Lewis as Colorado Falls 23-13 to Baylor

Colorado coach Deion Sanders replaced starting quarterback Julian Lewis with Isaac Wilson at halftime of a 23-13 loss to Baylor, saying he made the change to get the offense moving. The defeat was Colorado’s second in a row and left the Buffaloes 2-2. Sanders did not say whether Wilson would keep the starting job. Lewis completed 11 of 16 passes for 75 yards before leaving the game. Wilson took over in the second half and finished 12 of 25 for 156 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. After a slow start, he threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Williams early in the fourth quarter, tying the score at 13-13. Baylor scored the game’s final 10 points to secure the win. Sanders took responsibility for the halftime decision, telling reporters he wanted Colorado to get going and score. He said Wilson initially appeared shaky but settled down and did his job. The coach did not announce a permanent change at quarterback, leaving open whether Lewis or Wilson will start next. The switch came after Colorado managed three first-half points with Lewis at quarterback.
