Blizzard Announces Diablo 5 for 2029, Reveals First Classes

Blizzard Entertainment announced Diablo 5 during its BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, revealing a post-apocalyptic sequel set for a spring 2029 release. The announcement marks a significant shift for the franchise, moving from the ongoing live service of Diablo 4 to a full-fledged sequel. The game is set approximately a century after the events of Diablo 4, in a world where the titular demon lord has already conquered Sanctuary. "The heroes are gone, Sanctuary has fallen, and Diablo has won," said Diablo 4 director Joe Shely. "For the first time, you won't be fighting to stop Diablo from taking Sanctuary. You'll enter a world where he already has." During a follow-up panel, Blizzard revealed the first three confirmed classes for Diablo 5: the returning Demon Hunter and Monk, and the all-new Plague Knight. Game Director Joe Shely described the Plague Knight as a "heavily armored class" and a "walking death" that spreads disease and consumes it for power. Shely also announced that "Diablo 5 is going to launch with more classes than ever before," clarifying it will have the largest class roster in the series' history.
