VR Studio Polyarc Shuts Down After 12 Years
Polyarc, the Seattle-based studio behind the acclaimed virtual reality series Moss, has announced its closure after nearly 12 years of operation. The studio confirmed the shutdown in a LinkedIn post on September 12, 2026, stating it is winding down active development and saying farewells to its team. The announcement follows a period of financial difficulty for the studio. Polyarc had previously laid off a significant portion of its staff earlier in 2026 after failing to secure funding for a project that was subsequently cancelled. The studio's final release was Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a non-VR compilation of the first two Moss games, which launched in July 2026. While the game received positive reviews, it did not generate sufficient revenue to sustain the studio's operations. As part of the closure, Polyarc shared a reverse recruiting spreadsheet with contact details for approximately 30 affected developers to assist them in finding new employment. The studio's LinkedIn data indicated it employed between 11 and 50 people at the time of its shutdown. Polyarc's closure is part of a broader trend of contraction within the VR development industry in 2026.
