Apple Launches Foldable iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro Lineup

Published 7 September 2026

Apple officially entered the foldable smartphone market on September 9, 2026, unveiling its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, at a product event that also marked the debut of new CEO John Ternus. The device features a book-style design with a 5.4-inch external display that opens to reveal a larger 7.6-inch internal screen, positioning Apple in a segment where competitors have already established a presence. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, making it Apple's most expensive iPhone, with preorders beginning October 16 and availability slated for October 23 in initial markets. Alongside the foldable device, Apple introduced the updated iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. These models feature the A20 Pro chip, a new mechanical aperture for the 48-megapixel main rear camera, and improved cooling. The iPhone 18 Pro models start at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, with availability reported for September 18. The standard iPhone 18 models were notably absent, reportedly pushed to a 2027 release. This event was John Ternus's first major product unveiling since succeeding Tim Cook on September 1, 2026.
