Huawei Unveils Mate XT 2 Foldable Phone

Huawei Technologies has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Mate XT 2, featuring a new Kirin 9050 Pro processor designed to enhance performance while navigating international semiconductor restrictions. The company announced the device at a launch event in Guangzhou on Monday, September 7, 2026. The Mate XT 2 is Huawei's second-generation trifold device, opening to reveal a tablet-sized display. It incorporates the new Kirin 9050 Pro chip, which Huawei states is its most powerful mobile processor to date. This chip is built using the company's proprietary Tau Scaling Law principle and LogicFolding architecture, designed to shorten signal paths and reduce latency. Huawei claims the chip improves overall performance by 42 percent compared to its predecessor. The device also runs on the updated HarmonyOS 7, the latest version of Huawei's self-developed operating system, which began rolling out to existing Huawei phones on Monday. The Mate XT 2 starts at 19,999 yuan (approximately US$2,980), with the most expensive configuration priced at 24,999 yuan (about US$3,725). Sales are scheduled to begin on September 12.
