Apple reportedly plans AI home security camera

Apple is reportedly developing a privacy-focused home security camera and a corresponding monitoring service, with a potential launch planned for 2027. According to reports from Bloomberg, the tech giant is designing a camera that would use artificial intelligence to monitor its surroundings without recording traditional video footage. This new system is expected to work in conjunction with an upcoming home security and monitoring service from Apple. The development represents a significant expansion of Apple's smart home ambitions. The company already offers HomeKit Secure Video, a feature for third-party cameras that provides end-to-end encryption and uses iCloud to securely stream and store video. Now, Apple is planning to upgrade its HomeKit camera features in iOS 27 with new capabilities, including written summaries for motion alerts and the ability to group highlights from different cameras together. These new features will require a 2TB or higher iCloud plan, while the existing HomeKit Secure Video needs a 50GB plan or better. Alongside the new camera, Apple is also planning to launch a home hub for controlling smart home devices by the end of this year.
