Xbox Creates XP Division for Entertainment and Experiences

Published 8 October 2026

Xbox has created XP, a division bringing together work on film and television, consumer products, partnerships and live experiences tied to its gaming franchises. The company named Kayleen Walters, Mojang’s outgoing president, to lead the unit as president. The move consolidates teams whose entertainment-related work had been spread across Xbox, according to the company. XP is intended to help its franchises reach audiences beyond games, though the announcement did not identify specific new productions or attractions the division will develop. Xbox described four areas for XP: film and television adaptations; licensed products and merchandise; partnerships with creators, brands and communities; and live events, immersive experiences and other destinations. The division’s name refers to experience points, a term used in games. Walters will move from Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, to lead XP. Xbox said Maria Angelidou-Smith will take over as Mojang CEO starting October 19, 2026. Angelidou-Smith has held product leadership roles at Meta, Personio and Reddit, according to the company’s announcement. Xbox credited Walters with helping expand Minecraft’s reach during her tenure.
