Obsidian to Report to Bethesda Under New Xbox Structure

Obsidian Entertainment will report to Bethesda while keeping its existing leadership team, Bethesda president Jill Braff told employees in a memo, describing the move as primarily a change in reporting structure. Braff said the studio’s creative identity would remain central to its work, though the memo did not specify how decision-making authority will operate under the new arrangement. Feargus Urquhart and Obsidian’s leadership team will continue to lead the studio, which will report to Braff. Bethesda Game Studios will remain responsible for leading the Fallout franchise, while Bethesda and Obsidian build on early work already underway on a new Fallout project, according to the memo. Braff said the companies would share more about the project in the months ahead. The reporting change was announced as part of an Xbox reorganization on September 22 that moved Obsidian under Bethesda. The broader restructuring also included other changes to studio and franchise oversight, alongside 268 job cuts across the division, according to reports of the announcement. Braff said the new structure supports a franchise-led model and makes accountability for the studio and franchise clear.
